Northern Exposure had some of the best music for a TV show. If you're shopping to buy the Northern Exposure Seasons on DVD, avoid the later seasons. For some reason, on those discs they couldn't secure all the music rights, so the great music played in the background at The Brick is replaced with canned music. This changes everything. It's all about the atmosphere.
I'm still pondering your comment about bay leaf:
'i find myself questioning the bay leaf. thinking we're all pawns of the global bay leaf cartels. have you ever made a dish, served it friends, and had someone say, "hmmmm, needs more bay leaf"?'

Coincidentally, the Anchorage NPR station sounded a lot like KBHR. I'm guessing it was a small market that couldn't afford to buy all of the programming, so NPR was a couple of hours of news in the morning, followed by 8 hours of indie music, then a little news right before dinner time. Used to be, at least, back in the mid '90s.
